What kind of connection are you actually wanting?

It is possible to want connection and still not know exactly what kind of connection would be most compatible with you. Relationships are not one-size-fits-all, and they were never meant to be. What creates a sense of safety and closeness for one person might mean very little to another, or even feel like the opposite of what they need.

This is why being clear about the specifics of what you want matters. Because having the thought, “I want more connection” is a good starting point, but it is not specific enough to create connections that actually work for you.

It is completely understandable to be where you are with connection.

If connection has hurt, you may protect yourself from it.

If people have not been safe, you may have chosen to stay alone.

If your needs were shamed, ignored, rejected, or used against you, you may have stopped letting yourself know how much you need other people.

And if loneliness has been there for a long time, you may not even know where to begin.

But the place to begin is not by forcing yourself into closeness before you are ready.

It is by telling the truth about what you want, what you fear, what you need, and what would actually feel good to move toward.
