You know the feeling.

You spend Saturday doing everything you've been putting off since March. The yard. The garage. The deck. Maybe a cookout that went longer than planned.

And Sunday morning, your lower back — and maybe your shoulders, your calves, your knees — sends you a very clear message.

Your body has opinions about your weekends now.

That's not a complaint. That's just biology. When you push muscles and joints past their usual workload — even doing something as normal as a few hours of yard work — your body responds with inflammation and tension that peaks 24–48 hours later. It's called delayed onset muscle soreness, and the long weekend just handed it to a lot of people.

The question isn't whether you're sore. It's what you do about it.

❌ THE WRONG MOVE (THAT MOST PEOPLE MAKE)

Most people either push through it — which compounds the tension — or park themselves on the couch until it passes.

Neither works well.

Movement is actually what your body wants, just less of the kind that got you here. Light activity, circulation, and targeted nerve stimulation help your body clear out the inflammation and signal your muscles to relax.

That's exactly where TENS comes in.

LOWER BACK SORENESS (THE MOST COMMON CULPRIT AFTER PHYSICAL DAYS)

Place two pads on either side of your spine, just below your belt line — never directly on the spine. Start at a low intensity and work up slowly. Modulation or burst modes work well here. 20–30 minutes.

SHOULDER & UPPER BACK TENSION (FROM LIFTING OR HOURS HUNCHED OVER)

One pad on the trapezius (top of the shoulder, toward the neck), one pad mid-shoulder blade on the same side. Keep intensity moderate — this area is sensitive. 15–20 minutes per side.

LEG FATIGUE (FROM STANDING, WALKING, OR HAULING THINGS AROUND)

For calves: one pad on the upper calf, one on the lower. For hamstrings: one pad on the upper back of the thigh, one mid-thigh. Longer session is fine here — 30 minutes. EMS mode can help, if your unit supports it, by actively pushing circulation through fatigued tissue.

Timing tip: Don't wait until the soreness is at its worst. If you know you overdid it, use your TENS unit that evening or first thing the next morning — before the stiffness fully sets in.
