Saturday night, instead of doing literally anything else, I saw several posts online of a flyer on poles in Castro, and perhaps elsewhere in SF: a casting call for a Daniel Lurie impersonator to star in a gay adult film called "Let's Blow San Francisco."
Rather than laugh and scroll, I opened a new email and wrote a press inquiry to a stranger at [email protected]. Someone named Scooter replied with the following details, thus far:
- Yes, it is a real casting call.
- They're "genuinely seeking a Daniel Lurie impersonator" to star in a gay adult film titled "Let's Blow San Francisco."
- The budget is "whatever our team can pool together to make this happen."
- They plan to "collaboratively work with an established adult film studio to navigate rules pertaining to the industry."
- It's "still in the beginning stages"; their priority right now is simply finding the lead.
- In Scooter's words: "we just need our Lurie!"
No other details yet, but I continue to ask Scooter for more illuminating facts on the project. I have asked simple things like, lol: who they are, what's their budget; are there other politicians they plan to impersonate? You know, the essentials.

I decided to break news of this exchange before waiting for the mayor's office to reply on a Sunday afternoon. But I will, of course, be contacting them. What could Lurie possibly have to say in response to this? I definitely remember him courting the LGBTQ+ vote. For now let's end with some of the more entertaining online comments:
"Wish this meant we were getting railed instead of potentially losing public transit routes."
"Lurie's gonna need a side hustle if Prop D passes."
I'll be honest and echo infinityexpands, who skipped the jokes and just typed a prayer:
