Is summer throwing your sleep off?

Between vacation, summer routines and making the most of all the daylight (anyone else stay at the pool until bedtime?), it can be hard to keep your sleep on track during the summer. But making sure you get enough sleep can help you feel better and make the most of all the summer sunshine. Luckily Mollie Eastman, sleep expert and a member of CBDistillery's Wellness Board, has tips to keep summer from derailing your sleep:

• Try to keep your wake time consistent, even on weekends or during travel, when possible.
  
  

• Get outside for bright light early - summer makes this easier, so take advantage!
  
  

• If you’re out in the sun, sunglasses are great when needed for eye comfort, but try to get some natural light exposure without them first thing and throughout the day.
  
  

• Use blackout curtains or an eye mask if the longer daylight is making your room too bright.
  
  

• Keep evening screens dim and warm- or fire-toned to help signal to your body that it’s almost bedtime.
  
  

• If kids or travel are throwing off your routine, focus on what you can control (ample light exposure by day/darkness at night, caffeine timing, and wind-down habits).
  
  

• Stay hydrated, but try to limit fluids 1-2 hours before bed to avoid nighttime waking.
  
  

• Avoid strenuous workouts at least 4 hours before bed (see recent large-scale wearable study for more).
