No summer look is complete without a great pair of sunglasses, especially when you have sensitive eyes like me. Leaving the house without sunglasses means squinting in pain every time I step outside (and, yes, it really is that serious). So as you can imagine, I was very annoyed a few weekends ago when I lost my go-to St. Agni frames — my everyday sunglasses that go with everything and can be dressed up or down (and are currently on sale). Since I’m in the market for a replacement, I decided to try a few pairs from Thistles, the New York City–based eyewear brand that’s a favorite among fashion people, founded in 2023 by stylist and photographer Thistle Brown and writer Callan Malone.
I tested two styles from the spring 2026 collection that have the potential to be everyday frames, the Lex and the Suede, for two weeks. Both retail for $365, slightly cheaper than my St. Agni pair but still expensive for an accessory. Keep reading to see if they are worth the splurge. —Hanna Flanagan

I test a lot of sunscreens — I’ve been on the hunt for the best sunscreens without a white cast for over two years now. Since I apply it every single day, I cycle through a new sunscreen almost every month, which becomes expensive. As much as I love the pricey, luxe options, I’ve realized that a great formula doesn’t have to cost a lot. The drugstore is home to several affordable sunscreens that are just as good as the expensive ones and won’t cost a ton to restock. The Versed Good Defense Daily Broad Spectrum Face Sunscreen SPF 50 is my current favorite. It meets all my criteria: no white cast, no gross or oily feel, and, most of all, no stinging or burning the eye area throughout the day. I’ve been using this sunscreen for a little over a month and will likely restock before this tube is even done. I have combination skin that can be on the dull side, but this formula keeps it hydrated and dewy all day without looking oily. —Chinea Rodriguez

If you’re wearing all black, accessorize with a big raffia bag to lighten up the look. Wicker and woven totes also work well — think laid-back and beachy. A textured bag in a light tone feels subversive when paired with all black, which is always a recipe for a good outfit.

Opt for lightweight linens, sheer textures, crepes, fine knits, and cotton-poplin fabric — and style them together to build contrast. Texture play is the key to a successful monochromatic look and making black feel more summer appropriate when you’re styling it with other colors.

Don’t be afraid to overaccessorize |
We millennials know the power of a leather jacket in the fall and winter; it adds a necessary cool factor to outfits that feel too soft, too cutesy, too fussy, or too put-together. Adding a pop of black to your summer looks has the same effect — whether it be tying a black silk scarf around the waist of a white dress or accessorizing with black sunglasses, a black raffia hat, or black jewelry.
