Some personal news (for all of us): Astrology’s most notorious celestial event is preparing to make everything a little more complicated. Collective gulp. Beginning on Monday, June 29, Mercury, the planet of communication, transportation, technology, and cognition, will station retrograde at 26 degrees Cancer, kicking off its three-week flop era. |
But don’t roll your eyes, because this isn’t just any ol’ Mercury retrograde. No, my friend; this retrograde arrives at one of the most consequential astrological turning points of the year. On the same day Mercury begins moving backward, we’ll experience a full moon in Capricorn. Then, just a few hours later, Jupiter, the planet of luck, fortune, and abundance, enters Leo for the first time in 12 years, initiating an entirely new chapter defined by creativity, visibility, self-expression, and dramatics (obviously!).
|
And if that weren’t enough, July is guaranteed to be one of the most intense months of 2026 — nay, of our lifetimes?! — featuring rare planetary configurations that suggest rapid change, collective reinvention, and absolutely insane paradigm shifts. |
So what does all this mean for you … and will you make it to August? I’m not sure, but perhaps we can find out together. (Kidding! I think!) Behold, everything you need to know about this very wild retrograde ahead. |
> Wait, is it Mercury retrograde right now? |
If you’re reading this between Monday, June 29, and Thursday, July 23, 2026 … why, yes it is! And I bet you’re feeling it, too! |
> And why is this Mercury retrograde such a big deal? |
Well, it starts off with a bang. Mercury stations retrograde on Monday, June 29, at 26 degrees Cancer — which just so happens to be the same day as a full moon in Capricorn. And because Mercury is reversing course in Cancer, a zodiac sign ruled by the moon, this lunation will be especially potent. Full moons are powerful points of culmination; they reveal everything. Beneath a full moon’s nocturnal illumination, nothing can remain hidden, so as Mercury begins its backward journey, don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly confronted with major information, emotions, or realizations.
|
And then — to spice things up even more — just a few hours later, Jupiter enters Leo. Since June 2025, Jupiter has been moving through Cancer, encouraging us to focus on emotional healing, but Jupiter’s movement into Leo initiates a completely different narrative. This new 12-month cycle invites us to tap into creativity, confidence, and lots of unapologetic theatrics. |
But before we charge ahead into this new era, Mercury retrograde wants us to reflect on everything we’ve learned along the way. Mercury retrograde is acting like a checkpoint between chapters. Before Jupiter launches us into a bold new cycle of visibility and self-expression, Mercury wants us to look back on everything Jupiter in Cancer taught us about care, emotional resilience, and what it actually means to feel safe. What did we learn? What did we experience? Mercury retrograde gives us an opportunity to synthesize the lessons of the past year before we rush into the future, ensuring that growth is something we can truly count on.
|
And if that weren’t enough (it is, please stop!), July’s astrology is genuinely some of the most remarkable we’ve seen in years. Several of the outer planets will form a rare aspect pattern known as a basket, creating an extraordinary concentration of energy in fire and air signs. Astrologers are looking to mid-July — specifically July 19 — as a moment the new paradigm officially begins. Cool? |
So while the astrology is screaming “Faster! Faster! FASTER!,” Mercury retrograde is slamming on the breaks. Is Mercury just being a pain in the ass? Maybe. But it’s also demanding that we take a minute to read the instructions, follow the map, and have a clear sense of our path forward. After all, we can’t navigate to where we’re going if we don’t understand where we’ve been. There’s simply too much changing — and way too quickly — to barrel ahead on autopilot. Mercury retrograde reminds us that sometimes the most productive thing we can do is get our bearings, because once the pace picks up, it won’t slow down anytime soon.
