Most lucid dreams collapse in seconds. Robert’s four-step routine to stay inside.
,

Most beginners lose their lucid dreams within seconds of becoming lucid.

The moment of realising you are dreaming is electric, and the excitement itself is often what wakes you up. The dream goes blurry. The colours fade. And you are blinking at your ceiling before you have done anything with it.

Robert spent ten years working out how to stop that from happening. Four steps, in order, that you can run through the second you notice you are dreaming. The full sequence is in the graphic below.

Robert’s Tips #6 - Creating a Stable Lucid Dream
The shorthand: calm yourself down, ground yourself in your senses, keep reminding yourself it is a dream, and pick something specific to do.

Step three is the one most people skip and quietly regret. The dream is enchanting, and if you let yourself get swept up in it, you slip back into a regular dream without realising. Every fifteen seconds, say it out loud: this is a lucid dream. Robert has been doing this for fifty years and still does it.

Try the full sequence the next time you become lucid. Even running two of the four will buy you more dream time than you are getting now.

If you want more from Robert directly, he is hosting his next live stream this Wednesday, 3 June at 1 PM Central — bring your questions about stability, or anything else.

P.S. Our friend Ryan Hurd has a brilliant community for experienced lucid dreamers over at the Dream Portal — worth a look if you want to connect with other practitioners. And if pen-and-paper journalling has never quite stuck, our friends at Mirror Dream Journal App have a phone-based dream journal with morning recall prompts and dream-friendly alarms. Worth a look.
