| Short Films for Short Nights |

In July, The Met's Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art's annual three-part series Short Films for Short Nights returns with dozens of rare short films produced between 1900 and 1973. This year's theme explores "faces in the crowd." From close-up portraits to chance encounters and bustling city crowds, these works capture the full spectrum of the human experience. Join us for the final program, Crowds and Power, which assembles films about the masses, from the helter-skelter of cities to those resisting authoritarian control.

Explore the fantastical world of Creatures of Myth and Imagination at The Met Cloisters in this special gallery talk with multidisciplinary artist Ana de Orbegoso. Drawing inspiration from depictions of hybrid creatures and supernatural beings in the Americas and medieval Europe, the artist reflects on her own work related to symbolism, identity, and spirituality.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Creatures of Myth and Imagination: Europe and the Americas.

Join artist and sculptor Arlene Shechet to view the exhibition Giacometti in the Temple of Dendur and consider Giacometti's work in dialogue with the ancient civilization that strongly influenced his work. Listen as Shechet discusses her creative practice and shares how Giacometti's work has been a source of inspiration in her own art.

| Poetry and Place: An Evening with Narratio Fellows and Bahar Badiei |

Join us for an evening of poetry and music featuring the 2026 Narratio Fellowship cohort and oud player Bahar Badiei. Drawing inspiration from objects in The Met's Ancient West Asian collection, fellows have created original poems exploring memory, migration, identity, and belonging. Through the interplay of spoken word and the rich musical traditions of the oud, these performances invite audiences into stories that connect cultures, generations, and places across the globe.
The Narratio Fellowship is a year-long arts and storytelling program for refugee and immigrant youth based in Syracuse, New York. The Fellowship supports young people in developing original creative work across poetry, film, photography, music, and visual art. Through mentorship, artistic collaboration, and public performance, Narratio cultivates the next generation of cultural leaders while amplifying stories that expand public understandings of migration, identity, and belonging.
Free with Museum admission; admission is pay what you wish for New York State residents, and free for children 12 and under with an adult, and a care partner accompanying a visitor with a disability. Note: Space is limited; first come, first served.

| Art History Study Group—Cypriot Art |

Access the expertise of The Met from anywhere and expand your knowledge of art history. Join Sarah Lepinski, Curator, Department of Greek and Roman Art, to celebrate and reconnect with The Met's galleries for ancient art from the island of Cyprus, scheduled to reopen in 2027 after an extensive renovation. Explore major themes that will be presented in the new galleries, including ancient sculptural polychromy and narratives surrounding the goddess Aphrodite, who, according to mythology, was born from the sea off the coast of Cyprus.

| Copyist Program Applications Open |
Are you an artist looking to deepen your craft? Set up your studio at The Met through the Copyist Program! This unique opportunity gives you time and space to create your own interpretation of a masterpiece through close observation and technical study in the Museum's galleries. Copyists have created reinterpretations of original artworks in The Met collection since 1872, and this year, the program will expand to include a copyist at The Met Cloisters for the first time.
The application deadline for fall 2026 is Friday, July 31, 2026, 11:59 pm ET.

| Disability Community Photoshoot: Lights, Camera, Access! |
Saturday, July 25, 5:30–7:30 pm
Bonnie J. Sacerdote Lecture Hall, Uris Center for Education
Arrive for a stylish night of mingling and fashion photography with the disability community. Come wearing clothes that make you feel your best, whether it's a favorite t-shirt or a fancy evening gown. Own your story and explore what it means to be the star!
This program is drop-in and will include an opt-in photoshoot by a disabled photographer as well as socializing. Snacks and drinks will be available.
American Sign Language interpretation, ear defenders, fidget tools, wobbly cushions, sighted guides, and verbal descriptions are available. Visitors can meet sighted guides at the 81st Street entrance. Visitors may borrow manual wheelchairs (standard and wide) from Security at the 81st Street entrance on a first-come, first-served basis.
Presented in celebration of Disability Pride Month and in conjunction with the exhibition Costume Art.
