The Banned Bookmobile stop in Miami  Kym Blanchard/The New Republic

Dear Reader,

Thanks to the support of readers like you, TNR has had a busy week! On Wednesday, we held the most ambitious event in our history, the Stop Trump Summit—a riveting, eight-hour strategy session about Donald Trump’s destructive cult of personality and how to stop it.

At the same time as experts like Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, were taking the stage, our Banned Bookmobile was rolling through Florida on a monthlong tour to fight the outrageous book bans sweeping America. At a stop in Daytona last weekend, Moms for Liberty tried to get the local government to shut our Bookmobile down—but we were able to overcome their effort and roll on.

Weingarten explained how these medieval book bans, the fearmongering over critical race theory, and the demands for private school vouchers are all part of a larger Republican attempt to undermine our public education system. Weingarten’s message was clear: The right wing is attacking public schools today to pave the way for an even more privatized and stratified system of their creation.

We are doing everything we can to fight back against these extremists. But we can’t do it without your help. Your donation will help our brave Bookmobile team fight bans the rest of October, which happens to be National Book Month. You’ll be helping to pay for vehicle rental, books, gas, drivers, and workers. We also need to pay for security to protect against threats and aggressive protesters.

Yes, I'll help!

We need to raise $20,000 to fund our Bookmobile campaign in Florida, Texas, and other states that have banned books. That is a VERY achievable goal—if reasonable, book-loving Americans like you are willing to step up.

So where do you stand?

Do you think book bans are wrong and un-American?

Do you believe in the First Amendment and the freedom to read?

Will you PLEASE help us today?

Yes, I'll help!

As little as $25 will help us reach our goal. Supporters in the United States who give $100 or more will receive a supercool gift: an “I’m With the Banned” tote bag!

Thank you so much for supporting this urgent fight.

Sincerely,

Michael Caruso, CEO
