You're not the only one standing on the edge

- Build: Open a blank doc and list every problem people have paid you β or asked you β to solve. That list is the raw material of your expertise.
- Leverage (AI): Ask Claude or ChatGPT: "Based on my background, what's a 'next life' my experience could unlock?" Read what it sees in you that you've stopped seeing.
- Learn: Go read the comments on this morning's post. A hundred women telling the truth about standing on the edge. Proof you're not alone. (Standing on that edge too? Join us June 17 to get ready to jump. Free seat here.)
This morning I posted something on LinkedIn almost without thinking.
The gist was simple: if you've already pivoted β left the 9-to-5 to build your own thing, by choice or by force β I need to hear from you today. And if you're standing on the edge, not sure you can jumpβ¦ this is for you.
By lunch, it had nearly a hundred comments.
I'm telling you that not to brag β I'm telling you because it's a gut check, and a loud one. I have a hunch I've been writing this whole series on a feeling: that there are thousands of you out there quietly wondering what's next, too polite or too scared to say it out loud. The comments confirmed it. Woman after woman after woman: I'm thinking about it. I did it and it saved me. I'm terrified. I'm ready. Tell me how.
You are not the only one standing on the edge. You're in a crowd of brilliant women all looking out at the same horizon.
Here's the part I want to make sure you hear, because it would be easy to miss in all the noise:
This isn't magic.
When you watch someone leave and land β start the consulting practice, sign the first client, replace the salary β it can look like they were touched by something you weren't. They weren't. What looks like magic from the outside is almost always preparation on the inside. They named the expertise they'd stopped noticing. They built the network before they needed it. They learned the new tools. They set up the boring systems. And then, when the moment came β chosen or forced β they were ready.
That's the whole secret. Not nerve. Not luck. Readiness.
So if you're standing on the edge right now, here's the best advice I have, and it fits on a napkin: you don't have to leap today. But you do have to get ready. Start naming what you're good at. Start telling people. Start building the floor underneath you, one plank at a time, while you still have a paycheck holding you up.
And if you're already on the other side β if you've made the pivot and you're in the thick of it β I still need you. Hit reply and tell me your story. (Or post it!) What you wish you'd known. What you're proud of. The women on the edge are reading, and your story is the rope you throw back across the canyon. (This is also what the membership is for β the women already doing it, finding each other. If that's you, come be a light for someone who isn't there yet.)
I'll tell you what made me post it in the first place.
The other day I came across a photo of myself standing next to President Obama. It's from another life β a version of me from so many chapters ago I almost didn't recognize her. She was ambitious and certain and had a very specific idea of how her life would go. She had no clue. She couldn't have imagined the company I'd build, or losing nearly all of it, or the fight with a trillion-dollar giant, or the four daughters, or this β writing to you on a Tuesday about how to save yourself.
And here's what that photo reminded me, the thing I most want to hand you today:
You are going to live more lives than you think.
The woman in that photo couldn't see the next one coming, and she'd have been so relieved to know she'd make it through all of them. So will you. The career you have now is not the last one. The version of you reading this is not the final draft. Reinvention isn't a tragedy you fall into when things break β it's the most human thing we do, over and over, on purpose.
So let's get you ready for the next life. Together.
βJoin me Wednesday, June 17 at 4pm EST for a free, 60-minute workshop with Kristina Flynn β former story whisperer to NBA stars β to help you name your TRUE thing and start building your way out. No leap required. Just the first plank.
π Save your seat (free): Build Your Exit Plan workshopβ
The floor can disappear. The photo can be from another life. And you can always, always build the next one.
Rooting for all of us,
Amy
