Climate extremes—from heatwaves and wildfires to flooding and blizzards—are occurring more often and with greater intensity, raising the toll on human health. While climate health remains one of digital health's least mature innovation categories, some movement is afoot. Watch Duty, the volunteer-staffed wildfire app that provided a lifeline during last year's LA fires, expanded into flood tracking this summer—one example of how digital innovation can help people make faster, more informed decisions during climate emergencies. Logistics companies, like UPS and FedEx, are investing in climate-resilient operations to keep GLP-1s and other temperature-sensitive drugs stable in transit, efforts to ensure medication quality and continuity of care in the midst of heat waves. And just last week, policymakers reintroduced the GREEN Hospitals Act to help hospitals both reduce their environmental footprint and improve their infrastructure for climate-related disruptions.

While these examples show steps toward mitigating the health impacts of environmental factors, there’s still considerable room for innovation to address rising rates of heat illness, asthma exacerbations, medication instability, adverse maternal health outcomes, mental health concerns, and more.
