"Am I really doing this?"
This was my genuine reaction when I found out how far Mont Saint-Michel was from Paris. For a second, I seriously questioned whether I wanted to spend that much time getting there.
Mont Saint-Michel is a tiny island in Normandy, in northern France, famous for its medieval abbey that rises straight out of the sea.
I figured it might be one of those destinations that only look incredible in photos.
I was completely wrong.
The coach was comfortable, the morning was quiet, and for the first couple of hours you can literally just sleep. No train schedules, no figuring out transportation, no logistics stress. Just show up and enjoy the ride.
Then came the moment that completely changed my mind.
You don’t fully see Mont Saint-Michel at first.
You take the shuttle, walk out… and suddenly it just smacks you in the face.
The only comparison I could think of was coming out of the subway in New York for the first time and seeing skyscrapers towering above you.
What surprised me most wasn’t even just how beautiful it is.
It was realizing every single stone had to be brought there from somewhere else, built generation after generation, while fighting dangerous tides.
This is one of those places you don’t fully understand until you’re standing there.
Cheers,
