In early 2023, comedian Jake Shane began doing reenactments of historical events with a twist and posting them on TikTok. He played George Washington posing for his one-dollar-bill portrait, dinosaurs seeing a comet for the first time, the supportive friend of the person who cracked the Liberty Bell and a defiantly blasé 1998 Bill Clinton. “Nope, I literally didn’t do that,” he said in the clip. “Nope, ’cause I’m the president.”
The videos racked up millions of views over the course of a few weeks, but Shane is no flash in the pan. He’s continued to mint viral hits while becoming known for more than his jokes. He’s now close friends with celebrities including Charli xcx, Joe Jonas and Glen Powell. He also hosts a successful podcast that has featured guests such as Ed Sheeran and Blackpink’s Rosé, recorded a comedy album and is halfway through his second national live comedy tour after selling out his first. But Ashley Wong writes that Shane is still anxious for his ascent. Read more about Shane’s rise at the link below.
