Jason's Pick: The Balvenie 12-year-old Classic

Our Old & Rare head buyer Jason Vaswani selects a one-of-a-kind bottling from one of the most respected names in the whisky world…

"Holding a glass of certain whiskies is at times like holding a piece of the past in your hand. Every sip of these extraordinary drams tells a story – the way they delight the palate is all part of the experience.

My selection for the month of March is this Balvenie 12-year-old Classic. It’s very rare, introduced in the 1980s, in the unique bottle style which some know as a cognac bottle. The Balvenie Classic was released with two other expressions – a no-age statement and an 18-year-old, but neither are as rare as the 12-year-old, which was exclusive for the American market.

The Balvenie Classic is the precursor to the much-loved DoubleWood, which we see today, and was the introduction to finishing/secondary maturation at the Balvenie. This bottling isn’t just history, but an exceptional example to experience history or even add it to a collection.
Slainte."

Diplomatico Chancellor

Diplomático Chancellor is the pinnacle of the range, limited to fewer than 1,000 individually numbered bottles worldwide. Crafted from the distillery’s oldest pot still rums and triple matured in French and American oak, with rich notes of orange peel, leather and spice.
