"My top Old & Rare bottling for the month of March is one that’s very close to my heart, an exceptional Green Chartreuse from the mid-20th century.

"For those who aren’t familiar with Chartreuse, it’s a unique liqueur that’s been produced by Carthusian monks since the 1700s. To so-called 'queen of liqueurs' is made to a secret recipe known to just two members of the order at any given time that contains 130 different botanical ingredients.

"For collectors, the most fascinating things about Chartreuse are variations in production over the course of its history, and the fact that unlike other liqueurs it continues to develop in the bottle. I’ve been lucky enough to try a selection of vintage Chartreuse over the years, and this bottling produced in Voiron in southeastern France between 1956 and 1964 shows exceptional balance and complexity. When you give it time in the glass, different layers and aspects of the botanical character emerge.
