"First Cask Whisky began in 1992, when Direct Wines bottled four casks of Balvenie 1972, exclusively for their customers.

Since then, First Cask has been quietly offering customers the chance to explore individual distillery character, one cask at a time, through a long-running series of single-cask bottlings sourced from a wide range of distilleries. Decades later, these bottlings remain a fascinating snapshot of Scotch whisky history.

Supplied by Signatory Vintage and bottled at a consistent 46%, these whiskies were originally offered by the case, giving customers access to individual casks from across Scotland. Over the years, more than 500 casks have been released under the label, with that inaugural Balvenie 1972 remaining the first ever First Cask bottling.
