St Magdalene (sometimes referred to as Linlithgow, the town it was founded in) is one of the great lost distilleries, even if it doesn’t have the immediate name recognition of a Brora. Why then, is the name so revered amongst those who’ve tried it?

While there is a certain cachet just to partaking of an ever-dwindling stock, St Magdalene can certainly bring the goods. It's notable as a Lowland distillery that didn’t triple distil and its single malts age with great complexity and surprising heft. While classic lemony and grassy notes are present, there are also oily, smoky and aromatic elements that make for whiskies that reward time and attention.
