A Quick SSL/TLS Update

You've probably heard some buzz about SSL certificate lifespans getting shorter. (Check out more details in the latest blog post.)

Starting February 24, 2026 (DigiCert) and March 12, 2026 (Sectigo), new certificates will be capped at 199 days, with the effective SSL lifespan shrinking to approximately ~47 days by 2029. With certificates expiring more frequently, it's a good time to start thinking about how you handle renewals and whether your current process will keep up.

What You Need To Know

When you purchase an SSL certificate with 1-5 year coverage, you're paying for the full duration of protection upfront. This hasn't changed.

What's new:
Due to shortening SSL lifespans, you will need to reissue every 199 days, but this doesn't affect your coverage period or cost. Let's use a 3 year certificate as an example.
  • You purchase a 3-year SSL certificate.
  • Every 199 days, you re-issue your certificate at no extra charge.
You're not buying new certificates, you're simply refreshing the one you already own.

Two Easy Ways To Manage Certificate Re-issuance

To comply with the latest web browser security requirements, you'll need to re-issue your certificate twice per year (every 199 days). We offer two convenient options for managing this security requirement:

Option 1: Manual Re-issuance
We'll send you email notifications before it's time to update your certificate. (You'll just have to make sure your re-issue notifications are turned on, so you receive those email reminders.) Just follow the instructions in the email to revalidate your domain and get the updated certificate to install. The process takes just a few minutes, and we'll guide you through each step.

Option 2: SSL Automation
When you choose a SSL subscription with automation, your certificate will be automatically re-issued and reinstalled when required, so it always stays valid and up-to-date (without any action needed from you.)
