The Conversations We Can't Afford to Lose
This month, discussions in Parliament highlighted concerns around the visibility of women’s health content online, with reports that medically accurate information relating to topics such as menstruation, menopause and reproductive health can sometimes be restricted or incorrectly categorised.
While we often focus on positive developments in menstrual health, this story serves as an important reminder that progress isn’t guaranteed. Access to accurate information plays a vital role in helping people understand their bodies, seek support when they need it and make informed decisions about their health.
That’s why Menstrual Health Day (and Women’s Health Month) feels particularly important this year.
For generations, periods have been surrounded by stigma, misinformation and silence. Thanks to the work of campaigners, healthcare professionals, educators and communities, conversations around menstrual health are becoming more open than ever before. But we can’t afford to stop talking.
At TOTM, we believe menstrual health should be treated like any other aspect of health: discussed openly, supported by evidence and accessible for everyone. Every conversation helps break down stigma and creates space for better education, research and care.
And while access to information remains a challenge for some, access to basic menstrual products is still out of reach for millions around the world.
