Hey,
Stevi here – Dual Certified Nutrition Coach on the Truvani team.
If you're over 35 and feel like your metabolism has hit a wall, I want to explain what's happening.
Because most of the advice women get about this is WRONG.
The typical response is "eat less and move more."
Cut calories, do more cardio, restrict harder.
But here's the problem with that approach:
Your metabolism is largely driven by your muscle mass.
Muscle is metabolically active tissue – it burns calories just sitting there, even while you sleep.
The more muscle you have = the more calories your body burns at rest.
After your mid-30s, women start losing muscle mass at a rate of about 3-5% per decade.
And that rate accelerates after 40.
As muscle mass drops, your metabolic rate drops with it.
That's why weight seems to creep on even when your eating habits haven't changed.
You're burning fewer calories at rest because you have less muscle doing the work.
Now here's where it gets frustrating:
When women try to fix this by cutting calories, they often make the problem WORSE.
Because when you eat less (especially when you eat less protein) your body doesn't just burn fat…
It burns muscle too.
So you lose the very tissue that was keeping your metabolism running.
You end up lighter on the scale… but with even less muscle.
And your metabolism slows down even further.
Then when you go back to eating normally, the weight comes back faster because your metabolic rate is now lower than it was before you started dieting.
The real fix is the opposite of what most people try:
You need to protect and build your muscle mass.
And the most important thing your muscles need is PROTEIN.
Most women over 35 are getting somewhere around 45-55g of protein per day.
That's well below the 70-100g range that most nutrition guidelines recommend for preserving muscle and supporting metabolism.
|
|
According to Harvard Health, the bare minimum protein you need per day is your body weight in pounds multiplied by 0.36. So if you weigh 200 pounds, that's 200 x 0.36 = 72g of protein daily just to meet your basic nutritional needs – and most nutrition professionals recommend even more than that if you want to preserve muscle and support your metabolism.

And honestly, the best part is that it tastes soo good you look forward to drinking it.
We have 12 flavors, and some of them taste like straight-up dessert:
Chocolate, vanilla chai, lemon cookie, peanut butter.
It doesn't feel like a health chore.
It feels like a treat.
And for most women, one or two scoops a day is all it takes to hit their protein number without going over on calories.
You don't need to start eating giant chicken breasts at every meal or completely redo your grocery list.
You just add a shake into your day wherever it fits – morning, afternoon, after a workout, whenever – and your body starts getting what it's been missing.
That's when things start to shift.
You feel full for longer, so you're not snacking your way through the afternoon.
Your body stops burning through muscle and starts holding onto it.
Your metabolism has something to work with again.
And that stubborn weight finally starts coming off – without feeling hungry all the time.
