-, a deadly Ebola outbreak across the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda is putting children at growing risk.
Ebola spreads through direct contact and can be fatal. For this particular strain of the virus, there is currently no approved vaccine or treatment, making prevention, early detection and rapid response critical to saving lives.Â
The World Health Organization has declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
As of 16th May 2026, more than 246 cases have already been reported, with at least 80 suspected deaths in the DRC alone.
Children are especially vulnerable during Ebola outbreaks, facing risks beyond infection. Disruptions to healthcare and basic services can leave them without support, at risk of losing caregivers and experiencing long-term emotional impacts.
But right now, containment of this virus is the main line of defence, we urgently need to reach children and their communities with basic hygiene equipment, access to safe water and personal protective equipment to stop the spread and save lives. Â
