Dear -,
On Monday, 10 August, a powerful earthquake struck Colombia's ChocĂł region. More than 100 people have reportedly died and over 80 have been injured. The earthquake caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure, leaving many buildings in ruins and trapping people beneath the rubble as search teams continue their search for survivors.Â
UNICEF has been on the ground in Colombia for over 70 years, supporting children and families in need to access healthcare, nutrition, protection, education and other essential services.
We stand ready to scale up our response to help children and families impacted by the earthquake.
The disaster comes less than two months after devastating back-to-back earthquakes struck neighbouring Venezuela, causing widespread destruction, and at a time when Colombia is already facing significant humanitarian challenges.Â
Over 10 million people, including 3.7 million children, were already in need of humanitarian assistance before the earthquake struck, making an already critical situation even more urgent. Â
-, your tax-deductible donation can help UNICEFÂ continue providing lifesaving support for children and families across Colombia.
