On 26 August, severe flooding struck Rasuwa District in northern Nepal along the Nepal-Tibet border, causing widespread damage to homes, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. More than 150 people have reportedly been killed, with hundreds more missing.
Families have lost homes, livelihoods and access to essential services. Damaged roads and communication disruptions are making it difficult to reach some communities, and the full humanitarian impact is still emerging.
For children, disasters can have far-reaching impacts, separating them from loved ones and disrupting the support systems they rely on, leaving them frightened and uncertain about what comes next. UNICEF has been working in Nepal since 1964 and stands ready to support children's safety, health and wellbeing throughout the response and long after the headlines have faded.
