A. It's difficult to treat UTIs because of biofilm

Bacteria that are hiding within biofilms are either replicating or dormant. Many antibiotics work by killing the bacteria during the replication process. If the bacteria are dormant within biofilm, the antibiotics will not take effect.

At a later time, these dormant bacteria can release themselves from the biofilm, replicate, and cause a “new” infection. This cycle can continue, causing recurrent UTIs.
