I’m glad everyone enjoyed Elijah’s takeover last month! I, for one, can’t wait for my post-COVID roadtrip rounds to the spots featured over the past few weeks, but a digital road trip will certainly suffice in the meantime.

How Many Times, out on Father/Daughter Records later this month, is a gorgeous post-breakup album that maturely leans more into growth than into the temptations of bitter revenge. “You kinda only get your heart smashed wide open once. It’s just that bad once,” Esther told VMP, calling from New Mexico. “And then everything after that is how you recover and how you cope and how you learn.”

Even if Ricky Reed’s name doesn’t quite ring a bell right away, I promise you’ve heard his work. The Grammy-winning producer, songwriter, and Billboard veteran is behind everything from songs like Lizzo’s “Good as Hell” and Jason Derulo’s “Wiggle,” to the founding of the label Nice Life, to his new talent-studded solo effort The Room.
