If Mother’s Day is a sensitive topic for you for any reason, feel free to skip this one. Sending you lots of love today and always.
Happy Mother’s Day to all my Viv moms!
There was a lot I expected about becoming a mom. You hear about the love at first sight, the endless laundry, the feeling of each new milestone, and the slow recovery from the craziness of birth.
What I didn’t expect was how changed I would feel as a person. Everything about me felt new too, and I needed new ways to exist in every aspect of my life. Then my second came along and changed everything again. And still there are days when everything feels so fresh and new and uncharted. It’s beautiful and insane and universal and so personal all in one.
And speaking of both universal and personal - I’ve had two entirely different experiences with my period returning. After having my daughter, my period came back almost immediately. I had heard breastfeeding could delay it, but it seemed like as soon as I stopped bleeding postpartum, my period made its appearance. And suddenly I felt 13 again. It was heavy and unpredictable, I was suddenly bleeding overnight again and the length would vary month to month. It was like I had to relearn what it was like to have a period all over again. This time around, I am 10 months postpartum and still waiting for my period to return. Who knows what my first period back will look like this time! Last time, I changed from our cup to our disc - the lack of suction was such a game changer. This time - we’ll see!
There are so many things I feel lucky for - first and foremost I feel so lucky every day to be the mom of my two kids. I feel so lucky to have the amazing partner and support system I have that makes raising kids today so possible. And I feel so lucky to be doing that while building this incredible business. To support people during the parts of the month and the parts of their lives that they need it most, and consistently deliver the safest and most comfortable products available. To know that my kid’s generation will have cleaner, safer, products with less stigma, and more education about their changing bodies.
So here’s to every Viv user, subscriber, follower, friend; every mom, my own mom, all the moms we see and don’t see; we are all working towards a more caring tomorrow for this next generation!
