We’ve begun to roll out our Summer Issue, which centers American narratives we are excited by and proud of—from our cover star Gracie Abrams to the US Men’s National Soccer Team. It is also the first time an issue has featured designs exclusively by American designers or brands (yes, that includes American-born designers at foreign houses, like Michael Rider at Celine, as well as immigrants helming brands in the US, like Diotima and Proenza Schouler’s Rachel Scott). It’s a complicated moment to be celebrating America, but ultimately the current political climate made the theme of this issue feel more urgent than ever. |
Home Team Score
There’s big Knicks energy in New York, but I personally am psyched about the World Cup, which kicks off today in Mexico City. I live in a big soccer household (my husband played D1 college soccer and my father-in-law is a hall-of-fame soccer coaching legend!) so we have been talking about the World Cup being in North America for the first time since 1994 for many years. For the Summer issue, we memorialized the moment by celebrating the handsome, talented young men on the US Men’s National Team. They had so much fun on our shoot with model Imaan Hammam, who is an avid soccer fan (and plays in a Brooklyn rec league). Even though she cheers for Morocco, there were no hard feelings on set! We also had center-back Chris Richards on the podcast last week to set the scene for the biggest sporting event in the world. |
Amazing Gracie
I first met Gracie on the back of a golf cart in October, zipping past soundstages on her way to a rehearsal for Vogue World Hollywood, and I was immediately struck by how present, gracious and curious she is. She also has the kind of personal style that comes from being sure of herself in the most appealing way. Gracie has a huge summer ahead: her new album Daughter from Hell comes out on July 17th and she is currently filming her first movie, Please, in the UK. She also told Brittany Spanos all about her idyllic life at home with Paul Mescal. I love these photographs that Larissa Hoffman shot at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (Annie Leibovitz also took exclusive photos of George Lucas and Mellody Hobson inside the museum) and Jorden Bickham styled. |
American Style Stars
I met writer Biz Sherbert about six months ago, after my former colleague Laia recommended her Substack, American Style. Immediately I knew we should partner with Biz around our Summer issue celebrating American stories, and tap her expert eye for young style stars across the country. After poring over endless submissions via the Vogue app, Biz landed on an amazing patchwork quilt of stylish young Americans, two of which we photographed and profiled. |
Shaken and Stirred
On Monday night, a dedicated martini bar greeted guests upon arrival at Tribeca Grill. On Tuesday night, I went to Marcel—the glamorous new Roman and Williams restaurant at the bottom of the Breuer building—where the menu specifies the type of glass your martini will arrive in, and there’s an option made with Beluga Gold Line. Then, on Wednesday, a martini cart was firing off custom drinks at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund cocktail party at Jean’s, and at Rickie De Sole’s Air Mail fete, two of the three custom cocktails were martini varieties. I do not like martinis but never have I felt more left out of a movement! Fortunately we have the trend covered. |
Meet Me at the Metrograph
Last Friday night I hosted the opening night of a retrospective series of my father’s American films at the Metrograph. The series opened with the US premiere of a new documentary about his work, Louis Malle, le Révolté, made with such care and depth of research by filmmaker Claire Duguet, whom I interviewed after the screening. |
Everyone’s a Winner! CVFF Cocktail and Alice’s Ballet Recital
Alice had her much-hyped dance recital on Wednesday with two very Bob Mackie-esque costumes that turned me into a true dance mom. (Her tap song was “New York Groove.”) Afterwards, I hightailed it to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund cocktail celebrating this year’s class of finalists, all of whom presented their designs to the judges earlier that day in the Vogue fashion closet. I am so excited for this group, they are all so talented. |
Teen Vogue Time!
On Saturday, July 25, Teen Vogue Fest is coming to Duggal Warehouse in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. I am so excited for the slate of performers and speakers, from Sadie Sink and Ayra Starr to Benito Skinner and Mary Beth Barone. Tickets are on sale now—I’ll see you there! |
It’s De-Pendant On…
All the ladies on the Vogue Shopping team are always chicly accessorized with new talismanic pendant necklaces, a trend that seems to hit its peak in the summer. I love the ones that look like tiny pieces of an ancient ruin or unearthed buried treasure. This week I’ve been alternating between the tagua necklace from Hunting Season and a net-covered shell one from Heaven Mayhem. |
