What a week in New York! The city lost its mind in the streets on Saturday night—and then again today, at the Knicks’ ticker-tape parade, which we watched from our office windows. World Cup fever has also taken over, and I got to go to the France vs. Senegal match at MetLife Stadium! We’ve also shared the Summer issue story I am proudest of. |
I See MetLife, I See France
What an absolute thrill to go to the World Cup on Tuesday! I was a guest of LVMH at the France vs. Senegal match at MetLife Stadium, and it was the best day out for my husband and me. I wore a fabulous sequin-adorned Mbappé jersey from Cossa New York and got so many compliments from FIFA ushers! I even ran into Simon Porte Jacquemus, who outfitted the French team with his Jacquemus + Nike collaboration. Allez les Bleus! |
Easy Rider
Speaking of bleu, I love Chris Bollen’s profile of Celine designer Michael Rider, our American in Paris. I learned so much about Rider—like that he, too, insists on reading the print newspaper, and he’s taught French to refugees in Paris. I also love the Annie Leibovitz portraits (his Bill Cunningham blue chore coat!) and Francesc Planes and Malina Gilchrist’s fabulous fashion shoot. Like many people, I came out of the March Celine show feeling electrified and wanting to add every piece I saw to my wardrobe. It is so much fun to watch a house make clothes that every editor attending the show wants to wear. |
Dolled Up
Artist Betye Saar turns 100 this year and has two new shows to mark her centennial: one at Roberts Projects, her gallery in LA, where she is based (Tyler Mitchell took this beautiful portrait of Saar at the Huntington Gardens to accompany our story about it), and a jewel box of a show at the New York Historical Society, featuring her collection of Black dolls and the watercolors she painted of them during the COVID lockdown. I brought Alice on Sunday morning and she came away inspired; she has already selected some fabric samples that she wants to turn into a doll dress. |
Texas Holds ’Em
I am so very proud of this epic, spectacular portfolio by Tyler Mitchell and Carlos Nazario. We wanted to create a big fashion story celebrating American narratives we are excited by, and we ended up focusing on Texas, which feels so at the heart of the political and cultural conversation right now. (I read yesterday that the New York Times has opened a five-person bureau there for the first time!) Carlos, Tyler, and 30 trunks of clothes spent four days in Texas, where the team photographed 370 people, including the Ocean of Soul marching band, an Austin-based escaramuza team, and model Ruth Deng and her family at Big Bend National Park. There is a wonderful video about the making of the shoot and I chatted with Tyler and Carlos about it for the podcast—look out for that on Tuesday. |
Pining for Yew
When our beauty editor at large, Arden Fanning, brought up the “hot arborists of Central Park,” I knew we needed to celebrate them immediately. The Central Park Conservancy’s so-called tree doctors had been going viral on TikTok (a Google search beginning “Central Park arborist” autofills with “Dylan,” a beloved member of their crew), so Anna Lee and photographer Hana Mendel got into the weeds with the tree people. Calendar when? |
In the Knick of Time
We went long on Knicks content over the last few weeks: I loved Poupay Jutharat’s photos from lower Manhattan after Saturday night’s win; our courtside etiquette column with Jordyn Woods, Martha Stewart, and Cazzie David; and Vogue staffers’ intrepid taste-testing of Knicks-colored foods. (The “Knicks Generation” smoothie with orange juice and spirulina from Juice Generation is maybe my favorite!) And Alex Hildreth had the exclusive on First Lady of New York Rama Duwaji’s custom upcycled ensemble from 2026 CVFF finalist Miss Claire Sullivan for today’s parade. |
Ice Cream, You Scream
With our new issue on newsstands next week, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our summer scoop than with a…summer scoop. A highlight of my season so far was a group outing to Morgenstern’s on Rivington Street for a very serious tasting for our custom flavor, which was inspired by the surprising realization that a fan favorite ice cream among Vogue editors is mint chip. (This felt particularly fitting at a moment when Matthieu Blazy is making the pale green hue as much of a fashion staple as black or navy.) We wanted an espresso element in the mix and tried six different variations on that, from chocolate-covered espresso beans (too crunchy cold) to espresso-infused marshmallow (too chewy) before landing, Goldilocks-like, on chocolate-covered espresso honeycomb which is, let me tell you, just right. Starting on June 23—the magazine’s on-sale date—you too can get “Vogue à la Mode” at Morgenstern’s…then stroll next door to Iconic magazines for the new issue! |
Sleep No More
I find my sleep is worse during the summer—maybe because it stays light out later, maybe because I drink more rosé closer to bedtime. Margaux and I discussed sleep hygiene on Tuesday’s podcast (I’m a big fan of melatonin gummies and got the new Oura Ring to better track my snoozing!), along with the “Peptide Princess” and scalp facelifts! |
Freaky Feet
What better way to highlight outlandish pedicures (water lilies, ladybugs, zebra stripes, oh my!) than with equally freaky footwear? We had Vogue editors test-drive some of the wildest shoes of the season with our favorite nail art; consider Margaux Anbouba a pedi-sommelier! |
