The dog days of summer are upon us! This week we rolled out our annual Dogue cover series featuring some of our favorite celebrity dogs—as well as a pack of additional stories, highlighted below, that delighted us just as much. We also had a big wedding week—both human and canine. |
KAT Lady
I met Karl-Anthony Towns by chance one day in April at the Alo gym, just as the Knicks were entering the playoffs. I wished him luck, both on the court and with his upcoming wedding to Jordyn Woods. Suffice to say both went off without a hitch! Their ceremony this past weekend in Malibu drew everyone from courtside stalwarts Ben Stiller and Timothée Chalamet (and the NBA trophy!) to Mr. and Mrs. Bieber. Jordyn looked so beautiful in her Danielle Frankel dress; I loved the draped scarf detail. (And while you’re Knicks-ing, don’t sleep on Mikal Bridges and his ticker-tape parade companion, Sonny.) |
Couple Goals
I’d been talking to Georgina Rodríguez about her wedding to Cristiano Ronaldo for months before their ceremony last week, really putting in my plea at our pre-Met party at Madame Tussauds. We knew it would be a major moment, and working with avid soccer fan Juergen Teller to capture the couple’s intimate wedding day at home and at church felt exactly right—diamonds at the gym and all! And I was so charmed by Demna designing the entire family’s outfits as a nod to the way they first met: at a Gucci store in Madrid 10 years ago, where Georgina was working as a sales assistant. As Demna said, it’s “like a modern fairy tale.” |
Adam’s Big Apple
We were also excited to share Adam Badaiwi’s wedding to Alex Marxsen this week. It was such a love letter to their new home of New York City, from the slices at Scarr’s to shooting hoops on a neighborhood blacktop—in a Dunhill tux, no less! |
Bitch, Say I Do!
Last but definitely not least, we staged our inaugural Dogue wedding, joining in matrimony Tuxedo Murillo and Edie Berlinger-Douglas, two staff dogues and a true May-December romance. (Younger men and older women are having a moment in the culture, after all!) Rachel Antonoff and Susan Alexandra designed the wedding looks, with Edie sporting a pillbox hat inspired by Jackie Kennedy. |
Paw Patrol
There is an actual MTA rule that says dogs are allowed on the subway as long as they can fit inside a bag—and one of my favorite things is seeing photos of people cutting holes in Ikea totes for their huskies! With that in mind, we had Hannah La Follette Ryan (of Subway Hands acclaim) train her lens on subway dogs and the results are delightful. |
Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beholder
Emma Specter and Jamie Lee Taete set out to document the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, California, over the weekend, where judge Debbie Abrams told Emma, “I’m looking for scraggly hair, tongue hanging out, wobbly, face half off, weird gait—but I also want a personality. I’m looking for a dog that only a mother could love.” See the winner here! |
Pack Mentality
For three years we talked about photographing the magicians that are the city’s dog walkers, and finally we did it! As someone with a dog who cannot be trusted not to lose his mind when he meets another dog, I am always in awe of how they handle their roving hordes of hounds. Peter Fisher captured their prowess and Anna Grace Lee found out how they control the canine chaos. |
I’m a Samantha
About a year ago, Vogue contributing fashion editor Jorden Bickham DMed me the Instagram account of a majestic Afghan hound named Samantha. She managed to wear accessories with an élan and elegance normally reserved for mid-century swans like Marella Agnelli—an apt comparison made by Mark Holgate in his wonderful ode to Samantha’s personal style and regal bearing. For our shoot she interpreted the season’s scarf trend, showing that with a simple silk square you can inhabit any number of mysterious feminine archetypes. |
Copy That
Margaux Anbouba set out to learn all that she could about pet cloning (she’s the owner of both a shepherd mix named Rosco and a Selkirk Rex cat named Fondue), and what she discovered was a moral purgatory that made her rethink her dreams of Fondue forever. I particularly love Belén Segu’s illustration, inspired by Barbra Streisand’s famously multiplied Coton de Tulears. |
