Before the Curiosity rover went to Mars to look for signs of life, it had to be tested on Earth.

So NASA built a tent designed to block out all external electromagnetic radiation. No stray signals. No interference. Nobody next door sending a text, turning on the Microwave or chatting with the James Webb telescope.

We've used the same kind of technology to line the Leather Shielding Jacket, a re-engineered take on the A-2.

The lining is a lightweight ripstop nylon, with pure silver grown into the fibres rather than coated on top. That silver blocks radio waves and microwaves in the frequency range 30MHz to 10GHz.

For context: WiFi runs at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Bluetooth at about 2.4GHz. Ku-band satellites and radar sit up at 10GHz.

Measured at 51.5–61.1dB across this range, the lining reduces those signals to between roughly one hundred-thousandth and one-millionth of their original power in lab conditions.

There's also an internal pocket that works like a Faraday cage, completely blocking access to your phone whether it's switched on or off.

So you shouldn't be tracked, hacked or even called.

The Leather Shielding Jacket is cut from black nappa sheep leather, a fine-grain Italian hide and one of the softest leathers there is. Because it's only lightly coated, the grain and the depth of colour stay visible.

And while most nappa is chrome-tanned, ours isn't. We use plant-based tannins instead of chromium salts, which makes the jacket more breathable and means it will get more character the longer you wear it. And at 1mm thick, it's flexible and super soft without giving up durability.

We've added 2 large, side-entry pockets with a zipped interior pocket and a snap-fastening outer pocket. They sit flat over double-layer pocket bags cut from the same silver shielding material.
