That subtle check you can see on the outside of the Carbon Fibre + Dyneema® Pants isn’t just there for decoration. It's pure material science.
Woven horizontally throughout the pants are thousands of white strands of Dyneema, which, weight for weight, is up to 15x stronger than steel. It's used in body armour and to moor offshore oil rigs.
And woven vertically are thousands of black strands of carbon fibre, which is normally used to reinforce components in missiles, jet engines and the world's fastest cars. The check is simply where the 2 cross.
The problem is that while both fibres are superstrong, neither of them wants to stretch.
To turn them into a material you can actually move in, we start by engineering both into spirals and wrapping them around an elastane core.
Together the 2 supermaterials work like high-strength springs, expanding and compressing as you move.
And because those springs run both horizontally and vertically, the pants can stretch in any direction simultaneously. All while weighing just 350 grams and withstanding the same wear tests as our 100 Year gear.
Every other detail is about how they feel to wear. There's an elasticated waistband that tightens securely with a rubberised, metal-tipped rope, plus a zipped fly.
And articulated construction at the knees keeps you comfortable whether you're running, climbing or sitting on a long-haul flight.
We've coated the outside of the material with a water-repellent treatment so light rain rolls straight off its surface. And when you're working hard, they're fast drying and breathable.
