Senlak is a new and innovative clothing label based in the Nottingham, England, at the heart of Old Mercia.
It's T-Shirts, sweatshirts and apparel use designs inspired by England and the culture, history and heritage of its people. The Senlak White Dragon logo is derived from The White Dragon of the Anglo-Saxons - the oldest known emblem of the English dating back well over a millennia. The arrow shape that appears on many of our labels is the runic symbol for the early English god Tiw. We name Tuesday after him (Tiw's Day). His symbol was said to evoke honour and courage and he was the protector of all warriors, but was also said to watch over the disabled, and the left-handed. The accompanying wording reads in Old English "Good is he who keeps faith"
This Englisc thing is part of so many , a multitude spread over the globe. For the unconventional and the non-conformist. For the free thinkers, the radical and the rebellious - we embrace all these things.
"Only dead fish swim with the tide"
As for the name – Senlak. Well, it’s from a place where many years ago, brave men made their stand...

Hengest and Horsa - the Founding Fathers. When we talk about the formation of English identity, culture and heritage there is no time in our history that is as important as the Anglo-Saxon period. It is no exaggeration to say that without them there would simply be no England and therefore no English. The term Anglo-Saxon refers to the Angles and the Saxons – two of the founding tribes of the English nation......

The White Dragon of the English
"The clasp that holds the two sides of the cope together bears a jewel made by jeweller, Rhiannon of Tregaron. The design shows the white dragon of England and the red dragon of Wales greeting each other in peace across the cross of Canterbury."
The Arch Bishop of Canterbury web site
Two images toward the bottom of this section also bear mentioning. A pair of small roundels containing a red dragon, representing the Welsh, and a white dragon, representing the Saxons… For the Yorkists the red dragon represented Edward IV, and the white dragon the Lancastrians. The identification of Lancastrians and Saxons is made further along in the manuscript, where Henry IV, Henry V, and Henry VI are all bordered in Saxon yellow alone.
This refers to a 15th century heraldic manuscript.
"In their subsequent contests with the Saxons, our British ancestors always had a red dragon painted upon their standards; while the colourless banner of their opponents bore the figure of the White Dragon"
The National Magazine - Abel Stevens

Both the English and the Welsh adopted the dragon as their battle flag. The dragon of the Britons can still be seen in the Red Dragon of the Welsh flag while for the English it was the White Dragon that was to prove most enduring. The Dragon was flown by Harold II, when he destroyed the Norse army at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 and it was the banner under which he and his warriors fought to the death, three weeks later defending their homeland.....(read more)

The word "Englisc" pays homage to Old English tradition - our very early ancestors referred to themselves as the "Englisc". The White Dragon is the ancient symbol of the Englisc dating as far back as the birth of England itself and pre-dating the Cross of St George by many hundreds of years. Established 449 - its an important date. Traditionally this date is regarded as the beginning of the Anglo-Saxon era. It marks the coming of the Englisc the people who were to lay the foundation stones of the modern English nation and everything else that was to spring from it.

Crossed Huscarl axes logo on left chest along with Est. 449. The huscarl were the feared front line warriors of the early English army. Their preferred weapon was the fearsome double handed battle axe which also came to symbolise the high position that they held in society. Established 449 - its an important date. Traditionally this date is regarded as the beginning of the Anglo-Saxon era. It marks the coming of the Englisc the people who were to lay the foundation stones of the modern English nation and everything else that was to spring from it. We do like these t-shirts - subtle logo on left chest but still plenty of symbolism.

"Only dead fish swim with the tide..."
Sometimes it’s good to remind ourselves of who we are....We have a long history of radical thought and action and are rebellious in nature. We won our freedoms while at our most rebellious and while we sit at home and watch Eastenders they take them all back. It is no accident that many of the ideas of individual liberty and freedom that have helped shaped the modern world first took root in our land and from our people. Freedom of thought and action, taking a stand and not allowing those above to impose their views on us below - the tail should not wag the dog. We should embrace all these things because we forget them at our peril.
And the rest of it...Established 449. The Anglo-Saxon chronicle gives this date as the landing on these shores of Hengest and Horsa, the fathers of the English nation.
"I understand, and admire the English, they have a healthy disrespect for authority, you tell an Englishman not to do something, and what does he do, he goes right away and does it!" - Winston Churchill
