Château Montrose has long been celebrated as one of Saint-Estèphe's outstanding Grand Cru Classé properties, boasting a rare, single continuous 95-hectare sweep of vines that has remained historically unified for centuries. Owned since 2006 by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, the estate's unique terroir corresponds to geological "elite cores," where gravel and sand over a clay-rich subsoil provide perfect natural drainage and deep water reserves to buffer the vines against excessive heat.
The newly released 2025 Château Montrose is extraordinary. Able to thrive in a dry, warm vintage, with the earliest harvest in the property's history, extended over a long period to pick at perfect maturity while maintaining freshness. Sourced entirely from their historic "fourth terrace" vineyard, this is a classic wine of quiet precision, with profoundly concentrated, pure fruit from yields of just 30 hectoliters per hectare.
Elegant, yet lush and sophisticated on the palate, muscular and regal. Rich, mouth-filling layers of dark berries, cassis, black truffle, burning embers, violets, and chocolate, with tannins of exceptional quality lifted by vibrant freshness. One of the wines of the vintage, an age-worthy classic built to evolve gracefully in the cellar for over 50 years.
