Château Lynch-Bages is a 1855 Grand Cru Classé estate in Pauillac whose vineyards overlook the Gironde estuary from a gravelly hilltop. Its story reaches back to the 16th century, while the Lynch name arrived in the 18th century and the Cazes family acquired the property in 1939. Jean-Charles Cazes established the estate's modern character, followed by his son André, who restored the vineyard and promoted its wines abroad, and Jean-Michel Cazes, who joined in 1973 and guided an extensive modernization. Echo de Lynch-Bages, the estate's second wine since 2008, carries that Pauillac pedigree into a more approachable expression.
The 2017 Echo is built around a blend of mostly Cabernet with additions of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from 100 hectares of Garonne gravel, with hand harvesting and sorting followed by 12 months in one-year-old French oak barrels. Its redcurrant, raspberry and plum character is complemented by savory, earthy notes, fine tannins and refreshing acidity, giving the wine a graceful, medium-bodied feel. This is a natural choice for roast beef, lamb, or a plate of aged hard cheeses.
