Château Les Trois Croix came into the Léon family in 1995, when celebrated Bordeaux winemaker Patrick Léon and his family fulfilled a long-held dream of making their own wine in Fronsac. Léon brought an extraordinary résumé to the estate, having served as technical director at Château Mouton Rothschild and worked with Opus One, while his son Bertrand became closely involved in the family property. The estate's vineyards span Fronsac, Saillans and Saint-Aignan, giving the château its name from the three village church towers visible from the property.
The 2017 Château Les Trois Croix is a particularly compelling example of Fronsac, combining ripe plum and blackberry fruit with dark cherry, cassis, spice, licorice and a mineral edge, with silky tannins and refreshing acidity keeping the wine balanced. Medium-bodied but richly textured, it would be an excellent match for roast lamb, steak frites, or duck confit.
