Critical Acclaim
90 points – James Suckling
"A fresh and crisp white with aromas of grapefruit, rosemary, jasmine and white pears. Medium-bodied and gently saline with herb undertones, too. Refreshing. Drink now."
Viñas Murillo is a family winery in Alcazarén, Valladolid, founded by brothers Alfonso and José Antonio García Cano in 2017, building on more than five generations of family experience with the local vineyards. Their inspiration came in part from their grandfather, Alfonso García Murillo, a respected local grape broker who knew the vineyards and wines of the Rueda area intimately. Today, the family works with vineyards around Alcazarén, including old parcels, with winemaker María Sevilla overseeing the cellar. Their focus is firmly on Verdejo and on showing what this corner of Rueda can bring to the glass!
Valdihuete Verdejo is a 100% Verdejo made from grapes grown around nearly one-half mile above sea level on sandy, low-fertility soils, with the continental climate and stony terrain helping shape its fresh, expressive style. Expect grapefruit, pear, green apple, white flowers, rosemary and fresh herbal notes, with lively acidity and a gently saline finish, a profile that helped it earn 90 points from James Suckling! Serve it well chilled alongside grilled seafood, roast chicken, or a spread of Spanish-style tapas.
At just $7.99, compared with $11.99 you’ll see elsewhere, Valdihuete is an especially easy bottle to stock up on for this latter part of summer. It is fresh enough for an afternoon pour, versatile enough for dinner and priced to make a case buy very tempting! Inventory is limited, so order today while there is still some to put in the fridge.
