Should men know more about periods? Absolutely.

Every time we post a dad talking to his daughter about periods, the internet seems to split in two.

One side says:
“This is brilliant. I wish my dad had spoken to me like this.”

The other says:
“Why on earth are men talking about periods?”

And I always find that second reaction fascinating.

Men might not menstruate, but they live in a world with people who do. At some point, a daughter, partner, friend, colleague or teammate may need their support. Knowing what periods involve means they can respond calmly instead of awkwardly standing there wondering what to do.

So, should men talk about periods? Yes. More importantly, they should know about them.

Men don't need to be period experts. They just need to understand the basics, know how to help and stop treating periods as something embarrassing.
