The name Luddite comes from a simple belief: technology and mechanisation should never be a substitute for passion. Since 2000, this little family farm in Bot River has stayed true to that philosophy, working its own vines and staying hands-on from harvest to bottle. Close to the soil, close to the wine, with no medals or accolades needed — if they think it’s good enough to bottle, it’s good enough. |
Meet Niels & Alice Verburg, the winemakers behind the bottle 👋
Niels has made wine across France, Chile, New Zealand, Australia and even Greece, before settling in Bot River with his wife, Penny, and their children. They started Luddite in 2000, and today Niels makes wine alongside daughter Alice, who joined the business in 2017. And so the family passion continues.
