With the 4th of July giving us a long weekend this year, there's even more time for summer celebrations—backyard barbecues, beach days, fireworks, and more.

Whether it's hot dogs, burgers, or a fresh summer salad, eating before you drink helps slow down alcohol absorption and supports your body's ability to metabolize it.

Stay hydrated

The weekend forecast is hot and sunny, so make sure to alternate alcoholic drinks with water to stay hydrated and pace yourself throughout the day.

Get quality sleep

Alcohol can disrupt sleep and make it harder to get quality rest. If you can, try to stop drinking a couple of hours before bedtime to give your body time to wind down.

Plan ahead

Make key decisions before you enjoy that first drink. Alcohol impairs judgment and reaction time, so set a limit, arrange a safe ride home, and decide ahead of time when you want to call it a night.
