What happens when you mix training and drinking

Alcohol can interfere with glycogen replenishment

After exercise, your body works to refuel with blood glucose and muscle glycogen. Alcohol, especially in large amounts or on an empty stomach, can disrupt that process by impairing the liver's ability to produce glucose.¹

Muscle protein synthesis takes a hit

Studies show that alcohol consumed after strength training reduces muscle protein synthesis, even when protein is eaten alongside it.²
